If you own a car that was built in the last twenty years, it's almost certain to contain a transponder chip. They add an extra layer to security and can help prevent your car from being taken. They are also more difficult to  duplicate  than regular keys, which means you can be sure that no one else will be able start your car.

Transponder keys send an unique signal coded by the chip to the antenna of your vehicle when you insert the key. The car then utilizes this information to determine whether the key is a genuine key and will allow you to start your engine. Transponder chips are the industry standard for protecting your car against theft.

Although many people believe that their local dealer is the best place to purchase the replacement car keys, this is not always the case. Locksmiths can supply keys for replacement at a lower price and better quality than dealerships. To do this, they will need to know a few things about your car's model and VIN number. They'll then have to cut and program the new key for your car.

A dead battery can cause the key fob to cease working. If you replace the old battery with a newer model, and the key fob doesn't work, the issue is not the battery. Replace the battery with one that is the exact same size, voltage, and type as the previous one.

Water damage can cause the fob's key to cease working. If the fob was exposed to clean rainwater or tap water then you should be able to revive it by cleaning the chip with isopropyl ethanol and drying it completely before replacing the battery. If the fob was exposed salt or soapy water, it's probably damaged and you'll need to purchase a new one from an authorized dealer.

Keyless Entry Key

The Fabia is the smallest car of Skoda and was the model that established it as a serious major player. Its combination of space, quality and value over the course of three generations has seen it rise from the source of many car jokes to a key member of the VW Group family.

For its fourth generation the Fabia carries a more grown-up appearance and comes with more practical equipment. It also has an umbrella storage inside the driver's door trim with two USB-C ports to the front, and an electric 12-volt socket beneath the dashboard. The glove box is spacious and can accommodate two large bottles in the back.

Despite its diminutive size the Fabia has plenty of safety features in the standard - including hill hold control, and driver alert. It also comes with a number airbags, and remote central locking. There's even a feature that can activate the alarm and flash lights if you've left your keys in the ignition, or in the event that you accidentally open the door with the key fob.

A dead coin battery might be the reason why you can't lock or unlock your Fabia with the key fob. Replace a drained battery by one with the same voltage, size and specifications. Key Fob

You can repair your car key fob if it stops working. Based on the cause of the issue, it could be necessary to replace the battery or reprogram the remote system receiver module. You could also try a metal key that's built into the fob. If this fails, it might be time to visit a dealer to make repairs.

A dead battery is the primary cause of a key fob not working. The transmitter portion of the key fob houses a flat disc battery (CR2025, and CR2032). The key fob is easy to replace - simply remove the transmitter piece using a screwdriver over the area marked with an arrow. Take off the battery that is flat, and replace it with a new one. Make sure that the positive side is facing upwards.

The key fob features clips of metal that hold the battery in place and complete the circuit. These can be loose and cause poor contact that can block the remote from receiving any commands. Examine the battery's contacts using the multimeter or voltage meter to ensure that they are in good shape. If they're not, the transmitter module or electronic chip is the issue. You may try reprogramming your keyless entry system receiver module with an OBDII scanner.
